After Peter and John made a lame man walk, they were arrested and questioned by the Jewish council. They were warned not speak in the name of Jesus again. Peter answered that they have to obey God rather than man. He spoke as one filled the Holy Spirit. The Jewish leaders were astonished that an unschooled man would speak like he did.
When Peter and John rejoined the disciples, they told them what happened and the warning given to them by the Jewish leaders. The disciples lifted up their voices in prayer. As they prayed, they were filled with the Holy Spirit. They were emboldened to speak even contrary to the religious authorities. They didn’t pray for protection from persecution. Instead, they prayed for more healing, signs and wonders through the name of Jesus.
Years later, Paul encouraged the Ephesian church to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. When we minister out of our lack, we will burn out. We must be continually filled with the Spirit so we can minister out of an abundant Spirit-filled life.
