Acts 8:4-8, 12, 14-17
The Church tended to huddle together, enjoying each other’s company, and sharing life together. But the Holy Spirit wanted to spread the good news of the Kingdom of God and Jesus Christ. When persecution hit the Church in Jerusalem, the disciples were forced to flee outward throughout Judea and into Samaria. Philip brought the good news to the Samaritans, healing, delivering, and baptizing them. Amazingly, though, they did not receive the Holy Spirit until Peter and John came and laid hands on them. The Holy Spirit always works outside our neat little boxes and formulas.
